​ CHSD170's CHMS Band and Choir Present a Winter Concert at the CHPL

CHSD170's Chicago Heights Middle School Band and Choir, led by Sabrina Steck, performed a Winter Wonderland Concert at the Chicago Heights Public Library last Monday.

The performance was the group's second time appearing at the library event.

"It's always a treat to see the excitement build amongst our band and choir students as they prepare for a public performance," said CHMS Principal Chris Baikauskas.

"The enthusiasm and commitment of the students to perfect their songs as they prepare to perform before an audience of family, friends, fellow students, and the general public is palpable and contagious."

One of the performing groups was the Spartan Choir consisting of 6 - 8th-grade students. David Alexander, Alexandra Cornejo, Dulce Cornejo, Samara Coopwood, Anye Dawson, Sirr McCoy, Winona Pender, Yadah Pickett, Terrence Smith, Abigail Marrufo Velazquez, and Fidel Vega make up the ensemble. They sang "Jingle Bell Dash," "Candle in the Window," and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."

Some band students elected to perform together as small groups. Most of their songs were practiced on their own time and included "Jingle Bells," "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Deck the Halls," "Up on the Housetop," "Good King Wenceslas" and the theme song from the film, "Pink Panther."

The group's instruments included the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bells, and drums. Band students who performed included Giovanni Ayala, Ivan Chavez, Skyler Cisek, Reymon Colin, Jayden Del Horno, Marko Garcia, Iyarre Johnson, Aubree Kvasnicka, Erick Sinay-Lutin, Wesley Morales, Ahmaya Richardson, Adriana Romero, Jesse Sanchez Paola Saucedo, Lundon Thompson, Jeremiah Tucker, and Fidel Vega.

"Seeing the students putting in the hard work of practicing on their own to improve their performances was most satisfying," Steck said.

"My favorite part of performances like this is showcasing individual talents. Small group performances truly reveal the students' dedication, talent, and leadership. I am always so proud of my students and their hard work!"

CHPL Board members, vice-president Michele Baikauskas, and Michelle Aldana attended the program.

"As the Vice President of the Chicago Heights Public Library, I would like to thank the CHMS for selecting the library as its concert venue," said Vice-President Baikauskas.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the program as it brought back memories of my children's performances. I love seeing the children's pride and happiness as their parents watch them perform."

"The sense of accomplishment they feel from their hard work, individually and as a team with their fellow students, in presenting a top-notch performance was well deserved," she concluded.

La Banda y el Coro de la Escuela Intermedia Chicago Heights de CHSD170, dirigidos por Sabrina Steck, realizaron un Concierto Winter Wonderland en la Biblioteca Pública de Chicago Heights el lunes pasado.

La actuación fue la segunda vez que el grupo apareció en el evento de la biblioteca.

"Siempre es un placer ver crecer la emoción entre nuestros estudiantes de banda y coro mientras se preparan para una actuación pública", dijo el director de CHMS, Chris Baikauskas.

"El entusiasmo y el compromiso de los estudiantes para perfeccionar sus canciones mientras se preparan para actuar ante una audiencia de familiares, amigos, compañeros de estudios y público en general es palpable y contagioso".

Uno de los grupos de actuación fue el Spartan Choir que constaba de 6 estudiantes de octavo grado. Algunos estudiantes de banda eligieron actuar juntos como grupos pequeños. La mayoría de sus canciones se practicaron en su tiempo libre e incluyeron "Jingle Bells", "Angels We Have Heard on High", "Deck the Halls", "Up on the Housetop", "Good King Wenceslas" y el tema principal de la película, "La Pantera Rosa".

"Ver a los estudiantes esforzándose por practicar solos para mejorar su desempeño fue muy satisfactorio", dijo Steck.

"Mi parte favorita de presentaciones como esta es mostrar los talentos individuales. Las presentaciones en grupos pequeños realmente revelan la dedicación, el talento y el liderazgo de los estudiantes. ¡Siempre estoy muy orgullosa de mis estudiantes y de su arduo trabajo!"

Los miembros de la junta de CHPL, la vicepresidenta Michele Baikauskas y Michelle Aldana asistieron al programa.

"Como vicepresidente de la Biblioteca Pública de Chicago Heights, me gustaría agradecer a CHMS por seleccionar la biblioteca como su lugar de conciertos", dijo el vicepresidente Baikauskas.

"Disfruté mucho el programa ya que me trajo recuerdos de las actuaciones de mis hijos. Me encanta ver el orgullo y la felicidad de los niños mientras sus padres los ven actuar".

"La sensación de logro que sienten por su arduo trabajo, individualmente y en equipo con sus compañeros de estudios, al presentar una actuación de primer nivel fue bien merecida", ella concluyó.
