Franciscan Health hosting 9th annual Health & Wellness Fair

Free health screenings and much more at Cornerstone Community Development Corporation in Ford Heights on Saturday, August 26, 12noon-4pm

Cornerstone Community Development Corporation and Franciscan Health are inviting the public to a Health & Wellness Fair Aug. 26 in Ford Heights featuring a variety of health and wellness activities including free health screenings.

Information about women and men’s health, domestic violence services, recovery services, senior programs, breast cancer education and the Cook County CountyCare medical health plan will be available. Free screenings will be offered, including blood pressure, blood oxygen, body mass index, bone density, glucose, lung capacity and AFIB/heart rhythm screenings.

Vouchers for free health screenings at Specialty Physicians of Illinois clinics will be available as well. Children’s dental exams, help with ComEd payment options and information on local outreach programs will also be available.

“It’s a pleasure to partner with Franciscan Health once again in providing much needed services to individuals and families from our service areas, which include Ford Heights, Glenwood, Lynwood and Sauk Village,” said Cornerstone Community Development Corporation Executive Director Angelia Smith.

The 9th annual event is scheduled to take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, 943 E. Lincoln Highway in Ford Heights. Music, light refreshments, youth activities, group exercises, dancing, giveaways, prize drawings and more will be offered.

Frozen treats provided by Zarlengo’s Italian Ice and Gelato of Chicago Heights will also be available along with nutritional food options for attendees.

“We are happy to once again partner with Cornerstone for the ninth consecutive year,” said Jeff Lebioda, outreach and events coordinator for Franciscan Health. “Many residents attend this event and receive free screenings and valuable information to help put them on a path to better health.”

Event sponsors include Ford Heights School District 169 and ComEd. Additional partner agencies include United Way of Metro Chicago, the Village of Ford Heights, Nicor Gas, United Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Coalition (UMARC), Southland Recovery Coalition (SRC), Indigenous Community Service Center and Cook County Department of Public Health.
