Franciscan Health outpatient retail pharmacy open to public

A discharge from the hospital or a doctor’s visit can come with lengthy instructions and medication lists needed for recovery at home. Being able to fill the prescriptions before leaving is one less worry for a patient and their caregivers.

Providing patients with convenient and personalized service, the outpatient retail pharmacy is located within Franciscan Health Olympia Fields.

Both patients and members of the community can use the outpatient pharmacy, which accepts most insurance plans. It offers competitive pricing, the ability to transfer prescriptions and is the preferred, tier-one pharmacy for Franciscan Alliance employees.

“Our mission is to provide personalized, compassionate care to those patients we serve. We focus on the patient and building relationships,” said Denise Garner, manager of retail pharmacy services at Franciscan Health.

Another advantage at the hospitals is the pharmacy’s bedside delivery service, where needed prescriptions are delivered to the patient’s room. “Our pharmacy staff works with providers to ensure patients receive their discharge medications. We focus on easing the transition from patients’ hospital stays to their homes so they can focus on rest and recovery,” Garner said. “We work directly with the providers to resolve any insurance coverage issues or affordability concerns. Our pharmacy team goes the extra mile to care for each patient.”

Joshua Bitner, Ambulatory Pharmacy Services administrative director, said the bedside delivery service reduces readmission rates by making sure patients both receive and understand the medication they are being prescribed.

Along with prescriptions, immunization, medication therapy management and durable medical equipment sales are other services provided by the pharmacy.

“We offer a variety of services to not only our hospital patients, but also the community, extending the personalized, compassionate care to them as well,” Garner said. “Our outpatient pharmacy is recognized for its customer service to all those we serve.
