Franciscan Offers Free Breastfeeding Virtual Support Group Class

Franciscan Health Family Birth Center Olympia Fields is now offering breastfeeding support classes that prospective and current breastfeeding mothers can attend online.

Virtual support classes offer the best of both worlds. Breastfeeding moms who may not have time or resources to attend in-person sessions, can now get the support and information they need while practicing social distancing from the comfort of their own homes. Each session offers a safe and protected space for moms to share personal breastfeeding experiences, as well as tips to properly and effectively breastfeed baby and get valuable information from a Franciscan Health certified lactation specialist.

As one of just 591 designated Baby-Friendly facilities in the U.S., Franciscan Health Family Birth Center Olympia Fields meets the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

“We are committed to implementing evidence-based care through the Baby-Friendly designation to ensure that mothers delivering in our facility and in our community are fully supported,” said Teresa Berki, RN, a lactation specialist at Franciscan Health Family Birth Center.

Free Breastfeeding Virtual Support group classes are offered every other Wednesday at 2pm. For more information and how to register, send your name and phone number to Sherita.Needom@FranciscanAlliance.org from your preferred email address, with “Breastfeeding Support Group” in the subject line. Support group log-in information will be sent by email after registration is complete. A Franciscan Health certified lactation specialist will respond with all requested information.
