Head-On Crash On Route 1 Kills Both Drivers

KANKAKEE COUNTY, IL - A head-on crash involving two cars on Route 1 south of Delite Inn Road in Kankakee County resulted in the deaths of both drivers Tuesday morning.

Illinois State Police said in a preliminary statement Tuesday afternoon that Robert Lindner, 77, of Sauk Village was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry southbound on Route 1 around 7:04 a.m. when he veered into the northbound lane to pass another car that was headed south. While in the other lane, the Toyota struck a northbound 2006 Honda Civic driven by Thomas Rehmer, 57, of Momence.

Both drivers died as a result of the crash. Lindner was pronounced dead at the scene, while Rehmer was pronounced at an area hospital.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit was still investigating the crash.
