Highest Food Stamp Use In Illinois Is In Ford Heights
About 60 percent of households in Ford Heights get food stamps, a recent report shows.

FORD HEIGHTS, IL — Food stamp use, by percentage, is higher in Ford Heights than any other municipality in Illinois. That's according to a recent study published by Illinois Business Daily. It showed that 603 out of 1,008 households in the south suburb receive food stamps, which comes to 59.8 percent. The village of Brooklyn, in southern Illinois on the other side of the Mississippi River near St. Louis, has the second highest food stamp use in the state at 55.6 percent.
The report used numbers from 2017 that came from the United States Census Bureau. That same year, numbers showed voter turnout in Ford Heights was by far the highest of any town in Chicagoland.
In Chicago Heights, the Illinois Business Daily study showed that about one-fourth of households received food stamps in 2017. The exact numbers released were 2,655 out of 10,372 households there, which comes to 25.6 percent.

Only five municipalities in the state showed food stamp use above 50 percent. After Ford Heights and Brooklyn, Alorton, Washington Park and Hopkins Park also showed those numbers.
