Hit-And-Run Claims Life Of Indiana Woman In Chicago Heights

A 25-year-old Hammond woman has been identified as the victim of an early Sunday morning hit-and-run crash on 14th Street.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A 35-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Chicago Heights over the weekend. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Vanesa Espinoza, of Hammond, Indiana, was the person hit by a car just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 in the 1000 block of East 14th Street.

Chicago Heights Police Chief Thomas Rogers said Espinoza was found lying on the ground in a field just off 14th Street. Paramedics who responded to the scene were not able to revive her, as she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team is helping the Chicago Heights Police Department's Accident Investigation unit in investigating the case.

Police have not released a description of a vehicle or suspect wanted in the case. Anyone with information should call the Chicago Heights Detective Division at 708-756-6422.

Autopsy results for Espinoza were not available as of Tuesday morning.
