Illinois College Art Faculty Works Highlighted in January Exhibit

“Beyond Pedagogy,” a juried exhibition featuring Illinois college faculty members, opened Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, in the Christopher Art Gallery on the Prairie State College (PSC) main campus, located at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

The exhibition features works in all media submitted by Illinois college and university faculty, juried by Gallery Director Beth Shadur. Faculty artists featured include James Bowden of Chicago State University, Charles Gniech of the Joliet Junior College, Gretchen Jankowski of Governors State University (GSU), Jessica Larva of DePaul University, Joshua Lowe of Illinois Wesleyan, Gilbert Rocha of Richland Community College, Jordan Scott of Robert Morris University, Jon Seals of Olivet Nazarene University, John Siblik of Northern Illinois University, Rebecca Slagle of PSC, Philip Spangler of Harper College, Jeff Stevenson of GSU, Sharon Swidler of Oakton Community College, Valerie Taglieri of PSC and Mark Zlotkowski of DePaul University.

The exhibit is open through Thursday, Jan. 30, with an artists’ reception scheduled in the gallery from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Named for its generous donors, Bob and Marty Christopher, the Christopher Art Gallery the gallery hosts eight or nine shows per year, featuring local, regional and national artists, as well as student works. Shadur recommends programming and often acts as a curator for exhibits.

“The college is pleased to host this exhibit highlighting the works of so many talented faculty members from across the state,” said PSC President Dr. Terri L. Winfree. “If you haven’t yet visited the college’s art gallery, or haven't visited in a while, this is the time to discover or rediscover this hidden gem in the south suburbs.”
