Letter to the Editor: 'Help Me Connect the Dots' in District 227 School Board Election

A reader expresses concern about the state of Rich Township High School District 227.

The following was submitted as a letter to the editor

District 227 is in a mess and nobody seems to care. When an incumbent keeps getting elected to the board of a failed school district does that mean that they are smart or that the voters are not?

Why am I paying all of these high taxes most of which goes to the school district and not getting a quality education for my children?

Why do I have to squeeze my family budget to send my child to Marian?

Is my child ready to take the Common Core tests?

Why is the largest debt in the school budget due to the administration building for twenty people?

Why do I pray every year that my child will be chosen in the Southland lottery?

Do you think all these things happened because I and my friends did not vote?

Are some candidates not actively campaigning because they know that enough of their friends and neighbors will vote for them to win?

Will we exceed last year’s 18 percent low voting rate?

Is it true that most people don’t vote in school board elections and those who do don’t have sufficient information about the candidates?
