Lynwood Police Officer Daniel Kirby Dies After Battle With Cancer

Daniel Kirby was a 23-year veteran of the Lynwood Police Department and a U.S. Army veteran.

LYNWOOD, IL - Lynwood Police Officer Daniel G. Kirby died on Tuesday after a long and courageous battle with cancer, the Lynwood Police Department said on social media. Kirby was a United States Army veteran and a police officer for nearly 30 years.

"Officer Kirby was an asset to this Department and a friend to anyone that he met at work or at home," the Department wrote in a statement. "His presence was known with a hearty laugh and bright smile. Please say a prayer for our brother, may he rest in peace."

Kirby was first hired as a police officer in Harvey in 1989 and moved to the Lynwood Police Department five years later, according to an article in The Times of Northwest Indiana last year. He battled three bouts of cancer and was a veteran of the first Iraq war.
