A variety of songs were performed. It was also the final concert for Marian Catholic accompanist, Vonda Hardesty.
On Tuesday December 3rd, Marian Catholic choirs presented the annual Christmas Choir concert. Choirs that took part were Marian’s Chamber choir, Concert choir, Spartan choir and Varsity choir.
It was the first choir concert for Claire Jakubisin who is the choir director at Marian Catholic. “I think the concert went beautifully and I am so proud of my student's performance” said Jakubisin. “My favorite part is always when the choirs all come together to sing a group song.”
Beginning the concert was the Chamber Choir who sang a traditional Czech carol called Hydom Tiddlydom as well as Where are you Christmas? Solos were done by Vanesa Nguyen, Katie McGary, Sam Kirchner, Alexis Delgado, Ashley Saul, Talia Warr and Aria Whetstone.

The next choir that performed was the Concert Choir. A favorite among the crowd was when they did hand movements to the Twelve Days of Christmas.
“I like my students to experience singing all types of Christmas music” explains Jakubisin.” I think it is important to learn traditional carols and also songs about Santa and Jingle bells. We can learn many lessons about the music and the meaning of Christmas from both types of music.”

The Spartan Choir sang Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow and We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Following the Spartan Choir was the Varsity Choir singing Still, Still Still and a variation on Jingle Bells.
The highlight of the evening was two solos by Carrington Johnson, who is a senior at Marian Catholic. Perfectly toned, Johnson’s voice was pitch perfect during her solo, “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”
After 19 years, it was the final concert for Marian Catholic’s Vonda Hardesty who was the Marian Catholic accompanist.
“I have worked with Vonda Hardesty for my seven years at Marian Catholic High school” Jakubisin said. “ She has been with me in my classroom through all the good times and challenging times teaching high school can bring. We have gone on choir trips to New York City, Springfield, and Nashville together. She has been a wonderful musician and friend to work with as I have grown as a teacher.”
The next concert is February 18th which is open to the public.
