Mississippi Man, 28, Had Illegal Guns, Contraband Cigarettes Found In Traffic Stop In IL: Sheriff
The man was pulled over in Chicago Heights on June 9, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A Mississippi man faces a felony gun charge after authorities found two loaded firearms in his car during a traffic stop in Chicago Heights, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
At approximately 3:40 p.m. on June 9, Cook County Sheriff's Police Organized Crime Division investigators stopped an SUV with Mississippi plates for expired registration in the 500 block of East Lincoln Highway in Chicago Heights, the sheriff's office said.
When investigators approached the driver, they saw a firearm in plain view and learned that a second firearm was also in the vehicle. The driver, 28-year-old Cody Shamblin, did not have a valid FOID and was taken into custody.

While searching the SUV before towing it, investigators recovered both firearms and 11 boxes of contraband cigarettes.
Later that day, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a felony aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon against Shamblin. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of contraband cigarettes and cited for expired registration.

He was ordered released from custody on June 10 following his initial court appearance at the Markham Courthouse.
