​The National Wear It Pink Campaign Visits the SD170's CHMS

On Monday, October 24, the Chicago Heights Middle School hosted a Wear It Pink Basketball Game between the Lady Spartans and the Lansing Memorial Girls Basketball Team.

The National Wear It Pink Campaign is an annual event that invites people to wear pink clothing or accessories to support breast cancer awareness and research.

In the well-attended contests, the 7th Grade Lady Spartans defeated Lansing Memorial 17 to 8,

while the 8th Grade Lady Spartans fell to Lansing Memorial 22 to 14.

CHMS Principal Christopher Baikauskas gave special thanks to Gloria McFarlane (CHMS Student Services Director), Nick Pezzuto (SD170 Athletic Director), and Jack Lira (SD170 Assistant Athletic Director) for their efforts in making the event a great success and well-organized.

“Our girls were very excited and resolute about competing in the Wear It Pink game,”

“The busy environment provided the competitors with a true ‘big game’ experience, and the teams rose to the occasion.”

“All in all, the Wear It Pink game really brought our CHMS school community together,” Baikauskas concluded.

Pezzuto also noted the enthusiasm that the game brought to the CHMS.

“I was inordinately proud to see the overwhelmingly positive support for the Wear It Pink initiative from our students, staff, parents, family and friends,” he said.

“It’s been said that it takes a village to raise a child. In a similar vein, through the ongoing commitment of the CHMS and District 170 village, we will do our best to rally support in the fight against cancer in all its forms.”

El lunes 24 de octubre, la escuela secundaria Chicago Heights organizó un juego de baloncesto Wear It Pink entre las Lady Spartans y el equipo de baloncesto femenino Lansing Memorial.

La Campaña Nacional Wear It Pink es un evento anual que invita a las personas a usar ropa o accesorios de color rosa para apoyar la concientización y la investigación sobre el cáncer de mama.

En los concursos que contaron con una gran asistencia, las Lady Spartans de séptimo grado derrotaron al Lansing Memorial 17 a 8.mientras que las Lady Spartans de octavo grado cayeron ante Lansing Memorial 22 a 14.

El director de CHMS, Christopher Baikauskas, agradeció especialmente a Gloria McFarlane (directora de servicios estudiantiles de CHMS), Nick Pezzuto (director deportivo) y Jack Lira (director deportivo asistente) por sus esfuerzos para hacer que el evento fuera un gran éxito y estuviera bien organizado.

“Me sentí extraordinariamente orgulloso de ver el apoyo abrumadoramente positivo a la iniciativa Wear It Pink por parte de nuestros estudiantes, personal, padres, familiares y amigos”, dijo.

“Se ha dicho que se necesita un pueblo para criar a un niño. De manera similar, a través de la asistencia continua del CHMS y la aldea del Distrito 170, haremos todo lo posible para conseguir apoyo en la lucha contra el cáncer en todas sus formas”.
