New Rich Township School District 227 Boundaries Released
Rich East families now know whether their student will attend Rich Central or Rich South next year.

MATTESON, IL — New school boundaries in the Rich Township High School District 227 that were needed after the decision to close Rich East High School at the end of this 2019-2020 school year have been released by the district after the board of education voted last week to approve the boundaries recommended by the district administration.
Students residing north of Vollmer Road, Route 30, Sauk Trail and Lakewood Boulevard will attend Rich Central, while those south of the line will attend Rich South, according to the new district map.
Students entering their junior or senior years in 2020-2021 can attend either campus depending on their "career pathway of choice," the district said in a news release. Incoming freshmen and sophomores will attend the school they would based on the new boundaries.

Public feedback was welcome in determining the new boundaries, meetings were held and the district said it also worked closely with local police stations, police liaisons and parent advisory groups for guidance in drawing the new boundary lines.
"As we have addressed the need to create new boundaries in District 227, we have done so with an emphasis on student safety and keeping our community whole," Dr. Johnnie Thomas, District 227 superintendent, said. "We know that this marks a significant change, and we truly appreciate all the input and feedback we have received from our district community throughout the process. We are confident that the solution we reached will serve our students and families well in the years to come."
