Prairie State College Opens SouthWorks MakerLab on Campus

The lab is being offered in partnership with the Illinois Network for Advanced Manufacturing and the SouthWorks MakerLab Network.

Prairie State College recently opened a SouthWorks MakerLab on the college’s main campus, located at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights. The lab is being offered in partnership with the Illinois Network for Advanced Manufacturing and the SouthWorks MakerLab Network.

In the lab, guests can use equipment to make things for recreational, business or personal interests. The equipment available includes 3D printers, a 3D scanner, welders, electronics, mills, lathes and more for those interested in prototyping, inventing, crafting, artwork and hobbies. There also will be educational sessions including topics on safety, equipment usage, innovation and business principles. Camps and activities for youth groups also are planned.

Equipment in the lab was purchased with DOL TAACCCT funds.
