PSC Speech Team Brings Home Individual Honors from Harper College Tournament

The speech team provides students with the opportunity to improve their speaking skills while participating in intercollegiate competitions.

Prairie State College (PSC) speech team members brought home individual awards from a recent tournament at Harper College.

Alyssa Beverly of Homewood received a bronze award in informative speaking and a gold award in impromptu speaking. Lakeysha Moutry of Chicago Heights received a silver award in poetry. This was Moutry’s first ever speech tournament. Abigail Thompson of Sauk Village also competed with the team.

“After the tournament, the students articulated their educational experience as understanding the effectiveness of passion in communicating,” said team coach, PSC Professor Josh Green. The team also is coached by PSC Professors Ed Schwarz and Dana Trunnell.

The speech team at PSC provides students with the opportunity to improve their speaking skills while participating in intercollegiate competition. Just as with a sports team,members travel to different colleges and universities around Illinois (and beyond) to compete in tournaments against the students of other colleges and universities.
