CHICAGO -- A 20-year-old Chicago man has been indicted for the 2018 murder of a Chicago Streets and Sanitation worker. Albaro Guerrero-Garcia is facing felony charges of first degree murder, aggravated battery and mob action.

Terrell L. Jones, 32, and his 27-year-old cousin were shot on March 17, 2018 by two men armed with loaded assault rifles. Chicago police said the assailants opened fire at Jones and his cousin. Jones was shot in the back and later died from his injuries. His cousin was grazed but his since recovered.

Police said Guerrero-Garcia drove the gunmen, who were armed with assault-style rifles, around the Back-of-the-Yard neighborhood in a Chevrolet Equinox, the Sun-Times reported. Neither gunman has been arrested. The Equinox was later set on fire.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said local and federal authorities worked together on the investigation which led to the Guerrero-Garcia’s arrest earlier this month. Guerrero-Garcia is said to be a member of the La Raza street gang.

Investigators are not saying why they think the SUV that Jones and his cousin were riding in was targeted. Jones’ family believes it was a case of mistaken identity, the Sun-Times said.
