Shot Fired At Cops Conducting Search Warrant In Chicago Heights

Members of an emergency response team conducting a search warrant at a home on Lincoln Avenue were shot at early Tuesday morning.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Police officers from the South Suburban Emergency Response Team were shot at while conducting a search warrant at a home in Chicago Heights early Tuesday morning. In all, six people were taken into custody from the bust in the 1200 block of Lincoln Avenue that yielded four handguns as well as cocaine and marijuana.

Chicago Heights police said they partnered with members of the SSERT in executing the warrant at 5:44 a.m. and that while announcing their office at the door, one shot was fired at them from inside the home. None of the officers were hit, and no one returned gunfire.

Officers were able to enter the home "without further incident" and were able to take the six people, who weren't immediately identified, into custody.

Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services came to the home to process all evidence, which Chicago Heights police say was four handguns, cocaine and marijuana. The investigation remains ongoing Tuesday afternoon by the Chicago Heights Police Department Detective Division and the Crime Suppression.
