Trains Won't Stop At University Park Metra Station This Weekend
Delays are possible throughout the Metra Electric District line on Saturday and Sunday as work is done near the University Park stop.

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL -- Those planning to travel using the University Park Metra station this weekend should make other plans, as the rail company announced this week that trains will not stop at the station on both Saturday and Sunday due to track construction on the line. Work on the line could cause delays of up to 15 minutes on the Metra Electric District.
Trains are not able to service the station because it will be served by a single track while railroad ties will be replaced in the area, according to a news release from Metra. About 11,000 railroad ties have been or will be replaced this year from 121st Street to University Park.
“This is the type of maintenance that must be done on a continual basis so we can maintain the track speeds and service levels our customers expect,” Metra CEO/Executive Director Don Orseno said. “We have planned this project to take place on the weekend so it will have minimal impact on service.”

Metra officials are urging riders who use the station to instead use the Richton Park stop, which is located on Sauk Trail east of Governors Highway.
This project is part of Metra’s 2017 construction program, which includes approximately $216 million in infrastructure improvements to 29 stations, 21 bridges and 29 road crossings and the replacement of 57,000 railroad ties to ensure safe and reliable service and maintain a state of good repair systemwide, according to the news release.
