Washington-McKinley Students View Christmas Trees at Chicago’s MS&I

The Kindergarten through third-grade students of Chicago Heights School District 170’s Washington-McKinley School recently visited Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry to experience the “Christmas Trees Around the World” exhibit.

The field trip was a fun outing and a valuable educational experience. It afforded the students the opportunity to explore and marvel at the display, sparking their curiosity while broadening their cultural knowledge.

The exhibit, celebrating cultural diversity, showcased beautifully decorated trees representing different countries and their unique Christmas traditions. It was a marvelous opportunity to appreciate the rich tapestry of global Christmas celebrations.

Empowered by their museum visit, the students eagerly took on a project back at school. Each classroom was assigned a country to learn about and decorate a Christmas tree based on that country’s traditions, actively engaging in the learning process.

Teachers and administrators at Washington-McKinley stressed the benefits of such an excursion.

“I am thrilled to have won a grant from the museum, giving our kids the amazing opportunity to experience and explore the Christmas Trees from Around the World exhibit," said second-grade bilingual teacher Cristina Soto.

“The knowledge gained from the museum field trip sparked a curiosity that translated into even more learning opportunities back at school!" added Principal Joseph Silvestri.

Los estudiantes de Kindergarten a tercer grado de la Escuela Washington-McKinley del Distrito Escolar 170 de Chicago Heights visitaron recientemente el Museo de Ciencia e Industria de Chicago para experimentar la exhibición "Árboles de Navidad alrededor del mundo".

La excursión fue una salida divertida y una valiosa experiencia educativa. Brindó a los estudiantes la oportunidad de explorar y maravillarse con la exhibición, despertando su curiosidad y ampliando sus conocimientos culturales.

La exhibición, que celebra la diversidad cultural, mostró árboles bellamente decorados que representan a diferentes países y sus tradiciones navideñas únicas. Fue una oportunidad maravillosa para apreciar el rico tapiz de las celebraciones navideñas mundiales.

Animados por su visita al museo, los estudiantes emprendieron con entusiasmo un proyecto en la escuela. A cada aula se le asignó un país para aprender y decorar un árbol de Navidad basado en las tradiciones de ese país, participando activamente en el proceso de aprendizaje.

Los maestros y administradores de Washington-McKinley destacaron los beneficios de tal excursión.

"Estoy encantada de haber ganado una subvención del museo, dando a nuestros niños la increíble oportunidad de experimentar y explorar la exhibición de Árboles de Navidad de todo el mundo", dijo la maestra bilingüe de segundo grado Cristina Soto.

"¡El conocimiento obtenido de la excursión al museo despertó una curiosidad que se tradujo en aún más oportunidades de aprendizaje en la escuela!", agregó el director Joseph Silvestri.
