Will Golf Fore Kids

On a Tuesday morning in South Chicago Heights, you can find a line of people waiting for Alicia’s House to open.

Alicia's House is a non for- profit food pantry that continues to feed hundreds of hungry families each week. In order to help pay for the food and Christmas gifts for children, founder Juan Hernandez has a golf and dinner fundraiser for the past 17 years.

He needs your help.

“This year we have been busier than ever” said Hernandez. Alicia’s House has partnered with Washington Township and opened a second food pantry located in the Community Building in Beecher.

“Also new this year, we have expanded our Christmas outreach to include our New Christmas event” explains Hernandez.

“Last year we did a pilot program of it where children wrote a letter explaining who they wanted to help make Christmas special for and why. We chose 28 children.”

“Members of South Chicago Heights Police and Fire along with members of Steger Police and Fire took the children shopping, brought them back and had pizza and helped them wrapped their gifts. This year we are looking to expand that program to 100 children if we can raise the funds” he added.

How can you help?

Play a round of golf at Lincolnshire Country Club located at 390 E. Richton Road in Crete, sponsorships are also available , attend the dinner which includes top rate auction items or mail in a check.

Everything takes place Saturday, September 14th. Registration begins at 10:00 AM, lunch is served at 11:00 AM, Shotgun golf start is at noon, Raffles and Silent Auction begins at 4:30, 7:00 PM dinner is served with Awards and Presentation and live auction which begins at 8:00 PM.

“This year we have some one of a kind auction and raffle items” said Hernandez. “Items include 2 banners from the 2010 Stanley Cup Championship Blackhawks team one signed by Toews the other by Hossa. Also items by Babe Ruth, Chicago Cubs, Bears, Sox, Hawks, Hollywood items, music items and more.”

One of the largest raffle items a John Deere tractor. “The tractor raffle is just one of the raffles we do” said Hernandez. There are only 100 tickets sold at the event and winner gets choice of live auction item before auction starts.”

Also after a two year absence, actor Scott Schwartz from Oceans 11 will return to the golf outing.
