Workshop to Help Bloom High School Families Earn Scholarships

Bloom High School is partnering with an expert in financial aid and career development to support families in earning college scholarships.

The schools’ Parent Connections Initiative is bringing together parents of Bloom students for a Scholarship Workshop, hosted by Brenda High, a workshop facilitator with more than 20 years of experience in scholarship research.

The event is part of a larger effort to grow and cultivate connections between the school and the parents in order to properly serve students. As such, the event is free and all parents are welcome with a particular focus on junior parents, who could best benefit from the information as their students prepare for their senior year.

Last school year, Bloom 206 seniors accumulated more than $23 million in scholarships across its two high schools, and this year Bloom’s seniors have already raised more than $12 million. Superintendent Lenell Navarre said the district is aiming to build on that achievement.

“Last year our seniors not only committed to a higher education, but they doubled down on that commitment by seeking out the funds to pay for their journey,” Navarre said. “The Bloom 206 community is deeply invested in the success of our students, and this workshop is just one of the ways we are continuing to help them opening doors for themselves.”

Brenda High is a member of the National Career Development Association and certified as a Global Career Development Facilitator and Financial Aid Expert through the Illinois Student Aid Commission. She has assisted many students in obtaining millions of dollars for college, many of whom received full-tuition scholarships.

The event is open only to Bloom High School parents and is taking place Friday, May 4th.
