WOODSTOCK, IL — A vehicle that appeared to become airborne after leaving Route 14 crashed into a tree, a light pole and about six parked vehicles in a Woodstock parking lot Saturday afternoon, drawing a large emergency response, authorities said.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department were dispatched to the area at about 12:30 p.m. and found the crash in the parking lot of Culver’s.
Authorities said a vehicle appeared to have left Route 14 near West Lake Shore Drive, become airborne and then strike a tree and a light pole before entering the parking lot, where it came to rest after damaging about six parked vehicles, according to a news release from the fire/rescue district.
The driver, a woman, had gotten out of the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived and did not need to be extricated. Paramedics evaluated her at the scene, and she declined medical treatment, authorities said.
“When crews arrived, there was a lot going on and the scene was chaotic. We got lucky out here,” Battalion Chief Scott Nieman said. “Vehicles can be repaired, but it could have been a much different outcome if anyone had been in the path of that vehicle.”
The crash remains under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department.
