The Crystal Lake City Council will vote Tuesday on sign variations for a new Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt location at 570 Water’s Edge Boulevard in the Water’s Edge development.
The request, submitted by tenants Sieglinde and Daniel Savas, seeks permission for two wall signs to extend beyond the boundaries of the tenant suite lease area so they can be centered on the building façade, according to city council documents.
The proposal also asks to increase the allowable width of one wall sign to 80% of the tenant suite width, instead of the 70% maximum currently permitted under city code, according to city documents.
City staff noted the unusual layout of the strip center, where the Menchie’s unit is narrower than adjacent spaces and positioned off-center within the building’s design. They said strict adherence to the current sign placement rules would force the signage to appear asymmetrical and less visually effective, according to the city council packet.
According to the petitioner, the variation is needed to maintain visibility and alignment with the building’s architectural features, and both the property owner and a neighboring tenant have submitted support for the request.
An opening date for the new Menchie's Frozen Yogurt has not yet been announced.
