An investigation is ongoing into a murder plot that was foiled last month in Huntley.
Juan A. Dela Cruz Lopez, 21, of Melrose Park, was taken into custody on March 27, after he was found inside a home in the 13200 block of Sierra Glen Road. Police, while conducting a follow-up investigation at the home, found the man hiding inside, authorities said.
Police say Dela Cruz Lopez entered the home through an open garage door and waited inside for the homeowner to return with the intent to confront and kill him. Police arrived at the residence before the plan could be carried out, authorities said.
Dela Cruz Lopez was taken into custody without incident, and officers recovered a knife from him, police said. He has been charged with attempted murder, a Class M felony, and residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.
This past week, Patch.com reached out to police, seeking clarification about how the situation unfolded. Among the questions were what prompted the initial request for police assistance and who made the call, how the incident was initially characterized when officers were dispatched and at what point officers determined someone was inside the home.
Huntley Police Department Deputy Chief Kevin Keane said no new details are being released at this time as the "case is still under investigation." Authorities are hoping to release more in the coming weeks.
