WOODSTOCK, IL — A Woodstock man accused of driving drunk for the sixth time — this time with his 9-month-old daughter inside the vehicle — has been ordered held in custody pending trial, according to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese announced that Judge Cynthia Lamb granted prosecutors’ petition to deny pretrial release for Ramiro A. Sanchez, 33, following his initial court appearance on Tuesday, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
Sanchez faces two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, including a Class X felony and a Class 4 felony, as well as one count of endangering the life or health of a child. The charges stem from a Monday traffic stop in Woodstock, authorities said.
According to prosecutors, an officer stopped Sanchez after allegedly seeing him driving without a seatbelt. During the stop, Sanchez reportedly struggled to answer basic identification questions. When asked why, he allegedly told the officer he was “I'm (expletive) wasted.”
Authorities said Sanchez failed standard field sobriety tests and showed multiple physical signs of impairment. Officers also allegedly discovered an open “tall-boy” can of alcohol inside the vehicle, according to a news release.
Police further alleged that Sanchez’s 9-month-old daughter was inside the vehicle during the stop.
Court records also allege Sanchez has five prior DUI convictions — four in Colorado between 2014 and 2016 and one in DeKalb County in 2020.
Sanchez remains in custody pending further proceedings. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 26.
