MCHENRY, IL — A McHenry man accused of stabbing an out-of-state visitor multiple times outside a hotel will remain jailed while his case proceeds through court, according to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Colin Foster, 28, of McHenry is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony, and two counts of aggravated battery, Class 3 felonies. McHenry County Judge Michael Feetterer denied pretrial release for Foster during a Tuesday detention hearing.
According to prosecutors, shortly after midnight on May 16, Foster allegedly carried out an unprovoked attack on two men standing in a parking lot outside the Hampton Inn McHenry, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office.
Authorities said the victims had traveled to the area from out of state for a dog show when Foster allegedly approached them aggressively and stabbed one of the men multiple times. Prosecutors said the victim suffered eight stab wounds, including one to the chest directly above his heart.
Officials alleged the second man intervened during the attack and helped save the victim’s life.
Investigators said neither victim knew Foster prior to the incident and there was no known connection between them.
“This was an appalling and senseless act of violence carried out against two unsuspecting visitors to our community,” Freese said in a statement. “We are grateful that the victim survived this brutal attack and wish him strength as he continues to recover.”
Foster is scheduled to appear again in court on June 17 in Courtroom 302.
