A 14-year-old Lakewood boy who suffered severe injuries when a tree fell on him while he was on a hammock is now back home after being released from the hospital’s ICU and is “doing so much better,”according to media reports.
The incident happened Friday night in the 7300 block of Gleneagle Circle when three juveniles were injured after a tree collapsed at a single-family home, prompting a response from firefighters and paramedics around 9:20 p.m.
The boys were on a hammock that was attached between two trees when one of the trees fell onto the kids, Todd Caporaso, the father of a teenage boy who was seriously injured in the incident, told Lake and McHenry County Scanner. Caporaso was inside his home when he heard the boys screaming and ran outside.
He lifted the tree off the boys. His 14-year-old son, Carter, who suffered a skull fracture and two fractures to his pelvis was taken by helicopter to a suburban hospital, according to the media report.
Two other children were treated at the scene and released.
Carter was still concussed but awake and talking as of Tuesday and was released from the hospital's intensive care unit on Wednesday but has a "long road ahead filled with physical therapy," Caporaso told the Lake & McHenry County Scanner.
