MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 19-year-old Crystal Lake man who is a globally ranked skateboarder has been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly striking another person in the head with a skateboard at the downtown Crystal Lake train station early Thursday.
Authorities said the victim suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull and brain bleed and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Shaw Local is reporting. Police located and arrested the suspect, Gabriel Schuch, 19, about two hours later near the Indiana border.
Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann of the Crystal Lake Police Department said the incident happened at about midnight Thursday, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. He is accused of hitting the victim in the head with the axle and wheels of the skateboard hard enough to cause the brain bleed and skull fracture.
