Woman Turns Down Plea Deal In Infant Battery Case

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A Crystal Lake daycare owner accused of injuring an infant at an unlicensed home daycare in April 2024 has rejected a plea agreement and will take the case to trial, according to court records.

Ann Migliorato, 61, was offered a 10-year prison sentence as part of the proposed agreement, Shaw Local is reporting.If convicted on the most serious charges, Migliorato faces a potential sentence of 18 to 90 years in prison.

Migliorato, 61, was caring for several young children at her daycare in the 1400 block of Woodscreek Circle in Crystal Lake when the incident was captured on camera by a 10-year-old child. In the video, Migliorato appeared to put the 11-month-old child in a "chokehold" while changing his diaper and is accused of putting "significant pressure" on the neck of the infant, according to court documents provided to Patch.

Migliorata previously held a license to operate the daycare, but that license has since been revoked. Her grandson, who is a registered sex offender, was also in the home where Migliorato operated the illegal daycare, according to the court documents.

The grandson has picked up children from school and cared for them at the daycare in the past even though Migliorato "signed an order" stating the grandson would have no contact with any minors and would not be responsible for taking care of them, according to court documents.

Migliorato was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child under 13 years old, aggravated battery - strangle and unlawful operation of a child care center.

Her trial is set to begin on July 27.
