Man Accused Of Luring Victim With Pizza Before Stabbing Him

MCHENRY, IL — A McHenry man accused of luring a victim with pizza before allegedly stabbing him with a kitchen knife will remain jailed while his case moves through court, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Fernando Contreras-Galvan, 34, appeared in McHenry County court Tuesday, where Judge Cynthia D. Lamb granted prosecutors' request to deny him pretrial release, according to the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. Contreras-Galvan is charged with aggravated domestic battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

According to prosecutors, Contreras-Galvan went to the victim's home on the evening of Aug. 3 carrying a pizza. After entering the residence, he allegedly retrieved a large kitchen knife and called out to the victim to come eat.

As the victim opened his bedroom door, Contreras-Galvan allegedly attacked him, stabbing him with the knife. Prosecutors said the victim suffered a severe laceration to his arm while trying to defend himself.

Following the detention hearing, Lamb found prosecutors had proved by clear and convincing evidence that Contreras-Galvan poses a real and present threat to another person's safety and ordered him held in custody pending trial.

"This was calculated violence," McHenry County State's Attorney Randi L. Freese said in a statement. "According to the evidence presented, the defendant used the simple act of sharing a meal to lure the victim into a brutal knife attack. Those who commit violent crimes in McHenry County should expect to be held accountable, and our office will continue to fight for victims and the safety of our community."

Contreras-Galvan is scheduled to return to court Aug. 11 in Courtroom 302.
