A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested because of the severity of the injuries, but the child was instead taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital after the helicopter's estimated arrival time was deemed too long.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department treated the patient and secured the scene before turning the investigation over to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities have not released additional information, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
