MCHENRY, IL — A family dog was fatally stabbed by its owner after attacking and injuring a young child at a home near McHenry, authorities said.
The child was bitten during the Aug. 1 attack in the 2700 block of Kashmiri Avenue in unincorporated McHenry and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for treatment, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner. McHenry County sheriff's deputies and McHenry Township Fire Protection District personnel responded around 11:58 a.m. to the home for a reported dog bite.
Multiple attempts were made to get the dog to release the child, but those efforts were unsuccessful, according to authorities. McHenry County Sheriff's Office Deputy Katie Wendt told Lake & McHenry County Scanner the owner ultimately stabbed the dog to stop the attack, fatally injuring the animal, according to the article.
