First responders found a single-ATV crash and transported the operator, identified as 47-year-old Ty Barton of Huntley, to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Barton was then airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for further treatment.

The Lake County Coroner's Office was notified Tuesday evening that Barton had died in the hospital's intensive care unit despite medical treatment, according to a news release.

A preliminary investigation indicates Barton's death was consistent with blunt-force head injuries sustained in the crash, according to the coroner's office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Huntley Police Department.
