Crews extricated and stabilized the trapped occupant within 11 minutes. A medical helicopter was requested because of the person's condition and the need for heavy extrication, but the flight was canceled, according to a news release.

The person was taken by ground ambulance to St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates in critical condition. Their current condition was not immediately known. A second person was evaluated at the scene and released without being transported to a hospital, authorities said.

East Main Street remains partially closed as the East Dundee Police Department investigates the crash.

The East Dundee Fire Protection District was assisted by the Carpentersville Fire Department and Kane County Office of Emergency Management. QuadCom Dispatch coordinated communications.

No firefighters were injured.
