Route 14 Speed Limit Reduced Through Cary Curve

IDOT lowered the limit from 35 mph to 30 mph along a stretch of Northwest Highway through downtown Cary.

Drivers traveling through Cary on Route 14 will need to slow down after the Illinois Department of Transportation reduced the speed limit from 35 mph to 30 mph.

The change applies to Northwest Highway from Jandus Cutoff Road through downtown Cary to Borden Street. Cary Village Administrator Erik Morimoto said IDOT notified the village of the planned change, which was based on a traffic study, but did not provide an exact timeline for replacing the signs, according to Shaw Local..

IDOT spokesperson Maria Castaneda said the study considered factors including pedestrian and bicycle activity, intersections, parking, crash data and nearby speed limits, and that the reduction was the only recent speed-limit change made by the agency in McHenry County.
