CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 17-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were injured early Tuesday after a Ford Explorer crashed into a tree in Crystal Lake, police said.
The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday near North Avenue and Charlotte Avenue. According to the Crystal Lake Police Department, a 2018 Ford Explorer was traveling north on Charlotte Avenue at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and struck a tree on the north side of North Avenue.
The 17-year-old driver initially fled the crash scene on foot but was later located, police said. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 18-year-old passenger also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A portion of North Avenue was closed for about two and a half hours while emergency crews worked at the scene.
