Driver Treated After SUV Crashes Into Lakewood Residence: Officials

Fire crews secured the scene after the vehicle entered the home's attached two-car garage.

LAKEWOOD, IL — A small sports utility vehicle crashed into the attached garage of a single-family home on Melrose Lane, prompting a response from Crystal Lake Fire Rescue.

Emergency crews were dispatched at about 4:25 a.m. Friday to the 300 block of Melrose Lane for a report of a vehicle that had struck a residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found the SUV had entered through the northeast corner of the home's attached two-car garage, according to a news release from the fire/rescue district.

Firefighters established an incident command and investigated the scene. No occupants or pets inside the home were injured, according to the news release. The driver of the SUV was evaluated by a Crystal Lake Fire Rescue ambulance crew and treated and released at the scene.

Damage was limited to the garage area. Officials estimated the damage at approximately $50,000 to the structure and $40,000 to its contents, according to a news release.

The McHenry County Building Department and a restoration company were called to the scene to assess and address the damage, fire officials said.

A towing company later removed the vehicle in coordination with fire officials, the building department and the restoration company.
