• Sheriff says McHenry man was drunk, veered into oncoming lane, causing head-on crash with semi-truck near Crystal Lake (lakemchenryscanner.com) — A serious head-on crash shut down Walkup Road near Running Iron Drive in unincorporated Crystal Lake Monday after an allegedly intoxicated McHenry man's SUV veered into a semi-truck, trapping and injuring him. Crystal Lake Fire Rescue quickly extricated the driver, who was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and now faces DUI and traffic charges, with an initial court date set for October 7.
   

• 'Our choice isn't present': Public urges District 47 board to reject both proposed boundary changes (shawlocal.com) — Crystal Lake District 47 families are pushing hard against two proposed elementary attendance changes, especially a centralized dual-language academy at Coventry that critics fear would segregate students. With some schools on Crystal Lake's north side projected to exceed capacity, the board still plans a November vote, while residents rally, sign petitions, and complete a district survey open through October 1.
