Boy, 14, Dies After 'Traumatic Injury' At Cary Home: Police

CARY, IL — A 14-year-old boy died after suffering a traumatic injury at a Cary home Saturday afternoon, police said Monday.

Cary police officers were called at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 300 block of Carl Sands Drive to assist the Cary Fire Protection District with what was initially reported as an unknown medical issue, Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff told Patch.

When officers arrived, occupants of the home directed them to a teenage boy who had suffered a traumatic injury, Naydenoff said. Officers began providing medical aid until Cary Fire Protection District paramedics took over the teen's care.

The boy was transported to an area hospital, where he later died, according to police.

Police did not release the teen's identity or provide additional details Monday regarding the nature of his injury or the circumstances leading up to his death.

The Cary Police Department is investigating the incident with assistance from the Major Investigations Assistance Team, Naydenoff said.

"We are in the very early stages of the investigation," Naydenoff told Patch.

Police expect to release additional information later this week.

Lake and McHenry County Scanner previously reported that emergency crews responded to the home for a 14-year-old boy who had suffered a gunshot wound. The outlet reported that firefighters initially requested a medical helicopter before canceling the request and transporting the teen by ambulanceto Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.

Cary police have not yet publicly confirmed that the teen suffered a gunshot wound or provided information regarding whether a firearm was recovered, who was in the home when the injury occurred or whether investigators believe the death was accidental, self-inflicted or involved another person.

No information has been released indicating there is a threat to the public.
