Juvenile Relative Brought Gun That Killed Cary Teen: Police

Police say the handgun discharged while it was being handled inside a Cary home, killing 14-year-old Cary-Grove soccer player Ryan Marin.

CARY, IL — Cary police say a juvenile relative brought the handgun that discharged and fatally wounded 14-year-old Ryan Marin inside a Cary home on Sept. 26, according to media reports.

Investigators said the semi-automatic pistol was being handled when it fired, but authorities have not yet determined who was holding the weapon at the time, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner. Marin, a Cary-Grove High School JV soccer player who also played for the Cary Soccer Association, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the investigation remains active as authorities await forensic evidence, and no charges had been filed as of Monday evening, according to the news update.
