LAKE COUNTY, IL — A suburban man accused of posing as a limousine driver and extorting women he picked up at O'Hare International Airport has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Tamer O. Refaie, 34, of Burbank, pleaded guilty in McHenry County this week to intimidation by restraining or confining in connection with a September 2024 incident involving a woman traveling to McHenry, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. Authorities said Refaie picked up the woman at O'Hare, claimed to work for a black car service and later demanded $1,400 while detaining and threatening her before driving her to an ATM to withdraw the money.
Refaie was also charged in Cook County in two similar incidents involving women picked up at O'Hare and pleaded guilty there to robbery and kidnapping charges, according to the article.
His four-year McHenry County sentence will run concurrently with the six-year Cook County prison sentence, and he will receive credit for 687 days already served.
