CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 40-year-old Crystal Lake man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child, McHenry County State's Attorney Randi Freese announced.
Luis Alfredo Iglesias-Silva was sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 14, after pleading guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony. Judge Mark Gerhardt imposed the sentence as part of a negotiated plea agreement. The conviction stems from allegations of sexual abuse spanning several years, according to the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
The victim, accompanied by the child's mother, reported the abuse to the Crystal Lake Police Department in July 2025. The child subsequently participated in a forensic interview at the Child Advocacy Center, where additional details about the abuse were disclosed, prosecutors said.
According to Freese, the victim's involvement and input were important considerations in reaching a plea agreement that held Iglesias-Silva accountable while avoiding the need for the child to testify at trial.
"The courage of this young victim is extraordinary," Freese said. "After enduring years of abuse, this child found the strength to come forward and help bring the offender to justice."
"No sentence can erase that trauma, but today's outcome delivers accountability and sends a clear message: those who prey on children will be held responsible for their actions," she added.
Under Illinois' truth-in-sentencing law, Iglesias-Silva must serve at least 85 percent of his 16-year prison sentence, or approximately 13 years and seven months.
Following his release, he will be subject to mandatory supervised release for a period ranging from three years to life. He must also register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
