CGHS Trojan Cheerleaders Give Back
Cary-Grove High School cheerleaders collect sizable donation for the Cary Grove Food Pantry in first annual food drive.
Cary-Grove cheerleaders—freshman to seniors—collected and dropped off an abundance of canned food, paper goods, and other items at the Cary-Grove Food Pantry on Saturday as the team launched its first annual food drive.
The drive, organized and initiated by varsity cheerleader and sophomore Ellie Barr, was one of the largest the pantry has seen in awhile and will go directly onto the pantry’s shelves to fill them up again, according to Melody Stanko, the pantry’s board president. Girls from the varsity and junior varsity cheer teams collected approximately 600 pounds of food in addition to monetary donations, which will be used to purchase food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
“We live in a great community that continues to support the pantry with donations to help local residents in need,” said Stanko. “We love it when groups, especially students, use their time and talents to help us with our mission. Volunteering puts a smile on everyone’s face.”
