Client evolves career to work at Companion Animal Specialty & Emergency Hospital

(CASE) Hospital has a new Physical Therapist who changed her career after experiencing CASE's exceptional canine care.

(Crystal Lake, IL) — Companion Animal Specialty & Emergency (CASE) Hospital has a new Physical Therapist who changed her career after experiencing CASE’s exceptional canine care. Kelsey Moon, certified Canine Physical Therapist graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Masters degree in human Physical Therapy. After practicing on humans for 4 years, Kelsey experienced the care and compassion of CASE Hospital’s Canine Rehabilitation Therapy team for her Lab Mix post-operative knee surgery care.

“I was so impressed with the rehabilitative care from Dr. Karen Turner and Jessica Mueller at CASE Hospital, I decided to become a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist and obtained my certification at the Canine Rehabilitative Institute in Coral Springs, Florida,” explained Kelsey Moon, of Algonquin.

Moon’s Lab Mix, one of the three dogs she owns, had a second knee surgery seven months later. With rehab support from CASE Hospital, Kelsey reports the Lab is “Doing GREAT!”

Canine Rehabilitative Services are focused on returning pets to normal, healthy function post illness or surgery. At CASE Hospital, the Rehabilitation team combines traditional medicine with alternative therapies such as laser, acupuncture, underwater treadmill, and manual exercise. Moon explained that providing therapy with dogs is different than with humans. “It is harder with animals to convey what you want them to do. You learn to be more creative in communicating during an exercise session. Yet, once they understand, dogs trust and follow.”

CASE Hospital is McHenry County’s only 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital. Staffed with experienced doctors and certified technicians the CASE team works in collaboration with your primary veterinarian to ensure comprehensive care and maximum attention is given to each patient. The 10,000 square foot facility offers Internal Medicine, Emergency and Surgical Departments with in-house laboratory and pharmacy, ICU, ultrasound, endoscopy, advanced imaging, and state-of-the-art surgical suites.

“Kelsey Moon was an intern with us and was hired full time in July. She has expanded the team in the Integrative Medicine Department,” said Karen Turner, DVM, CCRT, CVA, cVSMT. “While providing primary medical needs to an ill or injured animal is at the forefront of the hospital’s objectives, helping those animals return to their full-functioning lifestyle, and keeping them healthy through therapeutic exercise, is just as important.” Dr. Karen Turner is certified in rehabilitation, acupuncture and chiropractics.
