Crystal Lake Central High School Combats The Growing Drug Epidemic

Local High School Crystal Lake Central made the progressive decision to take a stand against the growing drug epidemic taking place across the nation. Crystal Lake Central High School decided to have motivational speaker Tim Ryan, founder of A Man In Recovery Foundation, come in and share his journey ”From Dope to Hope” to educate students on the horrific realties of drug use.

Tim Ryan’s journey to sobriety is nothing short of a miracle. during the beginning of Tim’s addiction he was a very successful businessman and member of society despite his habitual drug use. Often spending nearly 500 dollars per day to support his heroin habit. Over time, Tim’s addiction caused his life to spiral out of control resulting in multiple overdoses, trips to drug treatment centers and eventually prison where he was sentenced to seven years in Sheridan Correctional Center for a number of drug related charges. During Tim‘s time behind bars he was fortunate enough to find sobriety. However, during his time in prison his wife divorced and his son Nick’s addiction headed into an all too familiar downward spiral.  Six months after Tim’s release from prison, his son Nick died of an overdose at the age of 20. Tim has used Nick’s death as an inspiration to spread the message of hope and recovery to others. This is the driving force behind Tim’s non-profit organization, A Man In Recovery Foundation, which guides, directs, and educates individuals on substance use disorder.

Tim’s Story really Hit home within the high school community. Student Kendall Rumford was raving about him stating” Tim was amazing! Definitely made an impact on the seniors! I heard many tell his story to their friends who missed out on the inspirational and heartfelt presentation. Central was very lucky to have him!”. Along with his presentation is an educational segment on how to handle a variety of drug related situations.

After speaking, Tim is available to the community to help anyone struggling with substance use disorder and related issues. Tim was quoted stating “Crystal Lake Central High School is doing some very progressive things to fight the epidemic that is ravaging our youth .
