District 47 to host Parent University on November 10, 2015
Topics to focus on online safety and teen/tween mental health
Parents and interested community members are invited to attend an evening of meaningful discussion on issues affecting today’s youth, families and schools at District 47’s Parent University, to be held on Tues., Nov. 10th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Bernotas Middle School.
Presenters include Matt Batt and Tarah Luster from The Parent Feed, a Cary-based online safety organization, who will be addressing the related topics of social media, online safety and cyberbullying. The Parent Feed and its counterpart Project B3 host seminars, often in a school setting, for parents and children who want to learn more about being responsible with mobile and online communications.
The second presenter, Susan Ling, program director for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), will discuss teens/tweens and mental health. Ling will offer parents the facts, warning signs and available resources to help youth who may struggle with depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions. A brief intermission between presentations will feature light refreshments and an opportunity to visit tables hosted by local community organizations offering programming for youth.
