First Give Thanks to the Lord, The Giver of All Life

Celebrate the true meaning of this holiday season: give thanks to the Lord for the gift of life and the opportunity to care for others.

Thanksgiving, a national holiday that is rooted in community, caring for your neighbor, and giving thanks for all that you have in whatever quantity, regardless of how that measures up to what you would imagine for yourself.

Recently however, this gracious day as been overwhelmed with consumerism and distorted priorities. Amidst planning the perfect meal to be displayed on the perfect tablescape that is quickly followed by aggressive Christmas shopping in pursuit of the best deals - we have lost the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

I challenge you to find peace and praise in all that you have been given in this life, not discontent for what you do not have. The Lord gives us each one life - a gift - which is to be used to honor and serve Him all of our living days. When we awake, may our first breath whisper gratitude to Him and may we find sleepiness in peaceful nighttime prayers. May every waking moment in between be used to care for and love our fellow man - enriching each other‘s lives in even the tiniest of details.

Of course this challenge is not an original one. It was first created by the Creator of all things as it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:18,
