Annual fundraising event everyone calls Tootsie Roll Day.
The most popular and successful program conducted by Knights of Columbus Fr. McCormick Council 3880 at St. Thomas the Apostle, in Crystal Lake and throught the Chicago area, is their annual benefit drive for people with intellectual disabilities..
During this annual fund-raiser, September 18-19, Council 3880 collects donations outside stores and on street corners, and are easily spotted in their yellow vests.
In appreciation, each donor is offered a Tootsie Roll. The high visibility of this program has led to the campaign being referred to as the “Tootsie Roll Drive.”
