McHenry County Elects New Sheriff

A new sheriff will take the reins in McHenry County.

With all precincts reporting late Tuesday night, William Prim won with 60 percent of the vote over James T. Harrison, according to unofficial results. Prim had 41,320 votes while Harrison had 27,028 votes.

Prim will take the place of Sheriff Keith Nygren who is set to retire.

Prim, 55, of Cary, is a retired from the Des Plaines Police Department where he served for 27 years and most recently worked as a police commander, the Daily Herald reports. James T. β€œJim” Harrison, 56, of Johnsburg, has run a law firm in Woodstock since 1991 but did serve as a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office deputy for eight years.

McHenry County Board District 1 (38 of 38 precincts):

  • Nick Chrikos, Democrat: 4,821
  • Robert Nowak, Republican: 7,553
  • Andrew Gasser, Republican: 4,990

McHenry County Board District 3 (38 of 41 precincts)

  • K. Bergan Schmidt, Democrat: 4,685
  • Joseph Gottemoller, Republican: 6,900
  • Donald C. Kopsell, Republican: 5,291

McHenry County Board District 5 (29 of 29 precincts):

  • Paula Yensen, Democrat: 4,308
  • John Jung, Jr,, Republican: 5,617
  • Michael Rein, Republican: 4,955
